Gigabyte GO-RAMDiSK-BOX to replace i-Ram

Gigabyte seems to have no plans to abandon its RAM-harddrive idea and after its integrated i-Ram device, it has now taken the RAM-disk concept one step further by developing a 5.25″ device that house all of the technology. Instead of connecting it to a PCI-port, like the i-Ram, Gigabyte GO-RAMDiSK-BOX will be fitted into an empty 5.25″ slot and just like the predecessor you can then fit it with DDR-400 memory modules for a total capacity of 4GB. Unlike i-Ram, the device get its power from a regular molex connector instead of the PCI slot. Other than that the device uses the same SATA 1.5Gbps interface.

Even if a RAM-disk has potential for better performance than a solid state disk, thanks to the DRAM technology, Gigabyte will have to come up something extra to increase the appeal of the RAM disk. A storage capacity of 4GB is far from enough for most systems.
