Previously we’ve seen motherboard projects where people have been striving for creating a BIOS with an open source code, but now an AMD engineer has actually released the BIOS for Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 as open source. Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 is based on NVIDIA’s nForce 570 SLI chipset and supports AMD’s Socket AM2 processors and now also has an open source BIOS. This makes it possible for users to take total control of its hardware and not just tweak the BIOS but also add functions and perhaps improve the overclocking potential. The BIOS for the motherboard can be downloaded from linuxbios.org for those who wants to take a look at the code or play around a little.
