GIMP’s new core presented – GEGL

Small preview image

GIMP, GNU Image Manipulation Program, is an advanced image editing software which is completely free of charge. GIMP has been around for about 10 now, but already 7 years ago there was a proposal to radically change the core of the appplication; GEGL. That didn’t happen and the new core was delayed, a lot, until recently when they decided to take on the project. GEGL has a completely different approach to image editing that you might be used to. Reguarly you edit a picture on a pixel per pixel basis directly. Instead you will be working with nodes instead. Each node is then an operation for editing the image. Thus, all editing procedures will be equal and independent of each other.

This may sound a bit messy, but to yours truly it sounds quite promising and may very well make GIMP stand out and become more popular.
