Analytical company Gartner has published a survey of the global server market, which reveals that the sales of server systems increased by 6 percent during the first quarter of 2007, compared to the same period as last year. All in all, 2.1 million servers were shipped during the first quarters, adding up to total revenue of $12.9 million USD, up by 4.5 percent from last year. Just like on the desktop market, HP has a strong position on the server market and tops the list of the number of shipped systems with 30.0 percent, archrival Dell is currently second with 21.1 percent, while IBM brings home the third spot with a market share of 14%. If we look at the revenue the roles are a bit different with IBM as the undisputed king of the hill, followed by HP and Dell.
