Graphics performance and netbooks are rarely seen in the same sentence, but changes are coming. NVIDIA is hoping to get its Ion platform out on the market, which hopefully will mean a lift for netbook, but we may not have to wait that long. A person called Vladimir Plenskiy has developed GMABooster which will improve performance of existing netbooks 2.4 times.

GMABooster is a tool for improving the performance of Intel’s GMA 950 chipset, which is found in almost all netbooks with an Atom processor. (Intel® 945GM/GME/GMS/GSE and 943/940GML/GU Express supported) The tweaking tool simply raise the graphics core clock frequency from the stock clock at 133MHz to 400MHz.

This is possible since Intel’s mobile chipset is really just a down-clocked desktop chipset to save power. Plenskiy claims it works perfectly fins, something you can try for yourself HERE (we take no responsibility). If you expect performance like Ion you will be disappointed, but this tweak could still be a big lift for most netbooks.
