The Gnome Project has finally released version 2.16 of its popular application environment. It has made big graphical improvements with the window manager Metacity with e.g. animations of many kinds. New icons have been added and at the same time the calendar Evolution has been updated with a more appealing look. Gnome has also been updated with optimizations for laptops and you will be able to notice a considerable difference compared to earlier versions, especially through the new options for handling the battery power consumption. A new and very convenient menu handler and a modified Deskbar are some of the other optimizations that have been made.
