Google continues to grab market shares on several markets. Besides an impressive offensive on the search engine market it has lately shown progress among smartphones. Also the browser Chrome have been moving up the ladder and how has 20% of the total browser market.
Google rolled out the first version of Chrome in December 2008 and according to a fresh report from StatCounter it has claimed 20.7% of the market in June 2011, which can be compared to the same month of 2009 when it had 2.8%.
The most astonishing is that both arch rivals Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer have lost shares. Microsoft has lost the most is now down to only 44% of the market (all versions), down from 59% in 2009, but is even worse when compared to the last decade when it had 95%. Mozilla has also lost some ground since June 2009 and has dropped from 30% to 28%.
The report from StatCounter is based on 15 billion site views from more than 3 million websites and is different from other reports from e.g. Net Applications where Microsoft still has 53.7%, while Firefox gets 21.7% and Chrome settles for 13.1% of the shares.
Google has made a lot of progress in a very short time on the browser market. It has geared now and it does not bode well for the competition, even if Mozilla is taking action to remain on top.
