Google has, as expected, presented its coming Chrome Operating System, as an open source project. Back during the summer the software developer revealed the operating system that many described as a terminal or client to the Internet. Google has revealed more about how Chrome OS works and it is without a doubt we can say that both Internet and open source are keys. Chromium OS is the name of the project and it follows the same guideline as the Chromium project of the browser.
Before getting too excited of yet another operating system we should make it clear that Google will not be launching the final version of Chrome OS until next year. By releasing the source code it will open up opportunities for third-party developers and the open source community to prepare own solutions for the operating system, well in due time for the launch.
The general idea of Chrome OS is that everything happens on the Internet. A Chrome OS PC doesn’t store anything locally, all documents and applications can be found on the Internet. This forces users to stay connected to use Chrome OS, while at the same time all your documents and data are synchronized between units. For example mobile phones and computers.
First, it’s all about the web. All apps are web apps. The entire experience takes place within the browser and there are no conventional desktop applications. This means users do not have to deal with installing, managing and updating programs.
Google has posted a simple video demonstration of how Chrome OS works:
Other than that Google talked a lot about its focus on performance. It will only take seconds to boot and get online. At the same it will put up certain hardware requirements for Chrome OS, to avoid any sub-par performance.
