We have seen it happen in the gaming industry and it is perhaps coming to the hardware market too. In an interview during the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference in San Francisco, Google CEO Eric Schmidt talked about the possibilities of a ad-financed computer. This computer would use cheap hardware and run Google’s Cloud computing, a solution where very little of the software is stored on the actual computer but instead connects to Google’s cloud and gets access to everything it need.
This is a ongoing development on several markets. Certainly an interesting idea even if it may never happen. It’s an interesting interview on what Google thinks about several markets and what they think; they are quite clever.
