At Anandtech they’ve continued to look into the two new HD formats Blu-ray and HD DVD. After investigating the playback of Blu-ray and the hardware requirements for the very same they’ve now turned to the competing HD DVD format. Playing HD DVD movies on a PC is just like with Blu-ray a very demanding task, but while the HD DVD format is a bit gentler to your PC it can’t store as much high-res material as Blu-ray can, simply because of the lower storage capacity. One interesting detail is that they’ve used the HD DVD player which was launched for Xbox 360, but that it has turned out to work just fine for PCs as well, through the regular USB interface.
