Evergreen is AMD’s new generation of graphics circuits that is rolling out on the market. A week or so ago we managed to dig up the information on the generation that will succeed Evergreen. Since then we have learned that the family will be dubbed Hecatonchires. This family will contain multiple graphics circuits for both desktop and mobile, and we can confirm at least three ASICs, while Fuad mentions a total of six.
As previously revealed Hecatonchires is a completely new architecture, different from Evergreen and previous solutions from AMD. The name comes from a monster of the Greek mythology, which makes sense considering the code names of the ASICs are also Greek.
Three Greek code names have been reserved for the desktop market; Briareos, Gyes and Kottos. All are different Hecatonchires creatures from the Greek mythology.
He adds that the architecture should introduce MIMD shaders and thus add additional power to the architecture.
