Bulldozer has launched and even though the reviews haven’t been shining, it is here. Overlocking profile hicookie, now resident at Gigabyte, had the chance to overclock the latest processor from AMD, where he managed to break 8 GHz with liquid nitrogen.
AMD Bulldozer has already been established as an overclocking friendly architecture, specially since AMD broke the world record frequency earlier and after our interview with Sami Mäkinen, but when AMD broke the record it had access to the very exotic and expensive cooling medium liquid helium. Overclocker hicookie has broken 8 GHz with liquid nitrogen.
“8GHz on 990FXA-UD7, not hard to reach without cherry pick CPU, LN2 Cooled -192°C”
To reach 8030 MHz he had to turn off three of four modules and increase the voltage to 2V, but it proves that it is possible to reach these sky high frequencies without liquid helium and AMD backing you. The motherboard was Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7. hicookie commented that you don’t need a cheery picked CPU to hit 8 GHz.
