The power supply has for the last couple of years moved from being in the shadows to being almost in the center of attention. Not only is the demand for a high and stable output more important than ever before, the demand for silent such as also been a demand from many. As an enthusiast I of course want both, even though it’s hard to say no to a real beast, you still don’t want a humming fan noise cutting through the music. At Presence PC they’ve now published part one of a roundup containing some of the most popular high en PSUs of today.
Antec Phantom 500W, which is a “hybrid-PSU” meaning it has a fan but only uses it if it has to, Hiper HPU-4K580 Modular, which we’ve earlier reviewed and was very impressed by, Seasonic S12 500 W, known for its low level of noise, Silverstone Zeus ST65ZF, same as for the previous, LC Power LC6550 V2, which is a cheaper alternative and last but not least Tagan U15 530 W.
As with most other products there is a reason some products costs a little more, you get a certain quality and it really shows in the tests here. While the better known, and a bit more expensive, PSUs performa well the cheaper ones fall behind. What is a bit susprising however is how poor Tagan U15 530 W performed compared to the other better known brands, such as Antec and Seasonic.
