Heatpipes have become the cooling manufacturers’ latest weapon against the increasing heat coming from today’s computer components. We can see the technology being used by coolers for both CPUs, chipsets and graphics card and not just extreme solutions but also with stock coolers directly from factory. But what is a heatpipe and why is it such an efficient technology to use with a heatsink? At OCModshop they’ve published an article about this where they discuss different kinds of heatpipes and in what areas they work best. A short but very educational article.
In summary: inside a heat pipe, “hot” vapor flows in one direction, condenses to the liquid phase, which flows back in the other direction to evaporate again and close the cycle.
