HP TouchSmart IQ770 was presented for the first time during CES in January and was a fresh contrast to the regular PC systems we see all the time. TouchSmart is suppose to be a system used for both work and pleasure, but the big difference from regular MediaCenter systems is how you use the computer. HP has namely chosen to use an advanced touchscreen display which simply makes a keyboard and mouse redundant. Everything is controlled by pointing, either with your fingers or other pointing devices, at the 19″ touchscreen display. Using a touchscreen is hardly news, but the launch a whole system that is completely reliant on this technology certainly is.
What may sound a little like science-fiction it seems to be a too early to launch it though. Rob Pegoraro at Washington Post has namely had the chance of playing around with the new system and he isn’t exactly thrilled.
“HP’s worthy but unsuccessful experiment sinks for the usual reasons. It costs too much and runs too slowly. And its surface ease-of-use is not matched by the Windows Vista software underneath.”
We’re still looking forward to hearing more about this and similar systems from HP and other manufacturers. A more interactive user interface is hardly all too far away into the future.
