Hewlett-Packard is apparently working on two new laptops with LED displays and it seems that we’re not talking about LED backlighting, but actually a real Light-Emitting Diode display, which is both lighter and more durable than regular LCD panels. The two models are a part of HP’s ultra-portable segment; Compaq 2510p and Compaq 2710 tablet. HP has been able to reduce the power consumption of the LED displays, which is still higher than the LCD displays, but the difference is a lot smaller now. The new models of HP’s laptop series is expected to arrive during the third quarter of 2007 and HP Compaq 2510p will be equipped with a 12.1″ display.
We’re excited about the new LED displays and we’re very eager to see how the new displays measure up to the very well established LCD technology, but if the price and performance are up to par we should be able to expect a lot more LED-based displays in smaller laptops up ahead.
