Philips has launched a new remote in the form of Philips RC9800i. The name “remote” might feel a bit weak here since this is far fram any everyday remote.

First of all it uses a 3.5″ touchscreen with 65k colors. Above that RC9800i supports the regular IR-technology, but also wireless networking in the form of WiFi (802.11b/g).
The first means you can control practically all remote controlled electronics in your house.
The latter means you can also communicate/control devices that uses wireless networking.

Why not browse through your files on the HTPC or maybe stream MP3-songs from the HTPC to the remote.
The possibilities are almost inifinte, just as your economy probably is if you decide to buy one for the small sum of £399.

As if that’s not enough we found this rather impressive installation, not any 15″ LCD touchscreen. The display is used to control more or less the entire home together with a couple of remote units.
The most impressive though is how the owner has lowered it into the wall and with its own wodden panel it looks pretty much as any wall decoration.

This in other terms no ordinary remote control for your regular home cinema, even though it is one the things it controls.
If I had the chance I wouldn’t hesitate a second to get me one of these mounted in the living room.
