Hynix is one of the first memory chip manufacturers to develop next generation of graphic card memory in the form of GDDR4. Hynix has now officially announced that it has developed a 512Mbit GDDR4 DRAM chip and in short will start shipping its chips to graphic card manufacturers for evaluation. The mass production of the new circuits is expected to begin at the start of 2006 and is a strong reply to Samsung’s development of a 256Mbit GDDR4 chip announced at the end of October. Since among others ATI’s new memory controller with the X1000 family already supports GDDR4 we might very well see cards with these high performance chips relatively soon.
