Nvidia finally got the Fermi manufacturing rolling and when it comes to servers the new Tesla models are popping up in various new HPC and server modules. We know of SuperMicro’s Fermi Tesla products and now IBM has joined up with the iDataPlex systems. These HPC (High Performance Computing) machines will use Nvidia’s Tesla 20 series GPUs and at IBM they hope to achieve much higher performance than previously possible in the same format.
“GPU acceleration provides performance boosts for many applications in energy exploration, science and financial services. It is among the significant emerging supercomputer technologies to watch in the years ahead,” Dave Turek, VP Deep Computing IBM
IBM’s first Fermi Tesla servers ships in rack mounted systems up to 3U and e.g. IBM iDataPlex dx360 M3 sports dual hexa-core Intel Xeon 5600 processors and dual Tesla modules and up to 128GB DDR3-1333 RAM.
