IBM has after a long wait launched a dual core version of its processorseries 970FX that was used in Apple’s Power Macs. The new processor 970MP will be introduced at at range of frequencies, from 1.4GHz up to 2.5GHz. Each processor will have 1MB L2-cache per core which is twice as much as the single-core model 970FX. Thus a perfect processor to use with Apple’s sequel to Mac G5, if it were’nt for one little detail. Apple has switched to Intel fo the next generation of Macs. IBM wil have to find other uses for its dual core processor PowerPC 970MP.
