Intel intends to keep up the high momentum of CPU launches. According to sources at motherboard makers Intel will start shipping the new Intel 6 series chipsets in week 42 already, in the middle of October. Right before the fullscale Sandy Bridge offensive starting early 2011.
Intel’s 6 series, code-named Cougar Point, was displayed back at Computex 2010 and most motherboard manufacturers are already well prepared for the new platform.
The informationen published by DigiTimes indicates that Sandy Bridge members should arrive at PC builders in November, to start shipping in December already.
The official launch of the Sugar Bay platform for desktops is slated for January and CES 2011. Sugar Bay is built on the Intel P67 chipset and Sandy Bridge processors with four cores and integrated graphics, targeting the mid-range segment.
Waimea Bay is the name of the high-end platform replacing Tylersberg and LGA 1366. The Intel’s Patsburg chipset will be paired with a Sandy Bridge-E processor sporting an integrated memory controller supporting DDR3 memories with speeds up to 2,666 MHz.
On the whole Intel seems to be moving in the right direction with Sandy Bridge and retails sales are expect to take off for real during the first quarter of 2011.
