We have at several occasions reported about AMD’s development of a technology called reversed HyperThreading. The technology will, according to rumors, be a secret weapon for AMD’s processors with dual cores. The reversed HyperThreading will simply let both cores work together as one unit, which in theory would double the performance with single-threaded applications. The last we heard was that the technology was already available inside AMD’s new Socket AM2 processors, something that sounded very promising, and surprising. Now the next piece of the puzzle known as reversed HyperThreading has arrived, new information namely indicates that Intel is working on its own version; Intel Core Multiplexing Technology (CMT).

Users at XtremeSystems have bumped into a new BIOS setting with Intel’s 975X Bad Axe motherboard that says “Core Multiplexing Technology”. After that the speculations have truly escalated and even if it just speculations at the moment they are truly interesting such. The user Freecableguy has created a couple of diagrams which show how the CMT technology could work if it is a form of reversed HyperThreading and even if we truly wants this to be true this information should be taken with a pinch of salt until we get an official statement from Intel.
