Intel’s upcoming Bay Trail-T ‘Atom’ platform was mentioned in internal documentation leaked by Intel. VR-zone was able to acquire these and discovered the platform is slated to launch September 11th.
When competitors like Qualcomm, Samsung and Nvidia are pushing the limits of performance in mobile devices, Intel is trying to get its Bay Trail-T platform out on the market. After watching the competition fight over market shares Intel hopes to break into the market for tablets and smartphones with its new energy-efficient Atom processors.
The chips that have appeared in pictures dug up by VR-zone are called: Z3740, Z3770, Z3740D, and Z3770D, where the D suffix implies budget models with lower prices and reduced functionality compared to the regular lineup. All models sport four 22 nanometer cores.
The ‘D’ chips will sport a single memory channel with support for up to 2 gigabyte LPDDR3-1067 memory with a bandwidth of up to 10.6 gigabyte per second. The clock frequency is specified to 1.8 gigahertz and the SDP to 2.2 and 2.4 watt.
The circuits without the ‘D’ suffix support up to 4 gigabyte DDR3L-RS memory at 1,333 megahertz and with a higher bandwidth of up to 17.1 gigabyte per second. The clock frequency is bumped up to 2.4 gigahertz. SDP lands at 2 watt, and no chips have been given any kind of TDP rating.
The same chips should get a more powerful graphics processor, but the exact model was not mentioned in the documents, but the ‘D’ circuits will support up to 1920 x 1200 pixels while the other will support up to 2560 x 1600 pixels.
Since this is a leak and rumor it is still too early to tell how much of this is on the mark, but it fits well with previous information and if September 11 is the correct launch date we will not have to wait long to find out.
