A Taiwanese source has leaked information to several sites about Intel’s coming 45 nm processors. The two new Core-based processors, code-named Wolfdale (dual-core) and Yorkfield (quad-core), will arrive in January, 2008, but the first 45nm processor will be the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 which should appear before the rest. All processors will have a slightly higher frequency than the current lineup, more and lower latency cache; 6 and 12 MB, along with SSE4 instructions, and lower TDP and overall better temperatures. All of the new models have a 1333 MHz FSB.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 series (Yorkfield) will contain three models to begin with, going from bottom to the top we have Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550. The frequencies will be 2.5 Ghz, 2.66 GHz and 2.83 GHz respectively. With previous models the XX5X indicated a higher, 1333 MHz, bus. In this series it indicates more cache. The Q9300 only comes with 6 MB of L2 cache, while the remaining two sports 12 MB. All models have a TDP of 95 W.
Intel Core 2 Duo E8000 series (Wolfdale) will in turn contain 4 models at the launch; E8200, E8300, E8400, and E8500. All models sport 6 MB of L2 cache and the only thing separating them is the frequency. Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 runs at 2.66 GHz and then each model bumps the frequency by 166 MHz; to 2.83, 3 GHz and last 3.16 GHz.
As you can tell from the name of the models there is plenty of room for even faster models such as E8600, E8700, E8800, Q9650, Q9750, Q9850, and so forth. Or even more lower end models such as Q9400 or perhaps a Q9500.
Last but not least we have the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650, which runs at 3.0 GHz, 12 MB of L2 cache, 1,333 MHz FSB, a slightly higher TDP of 130 W, and if we’re lucky there should be samples in early December.
