Intel continues to work on new power saving functions for its processor architectures, but it has now shown some interest in the actual power supply for computers. It has namely announced a project where it challenges European universities to find environmental and creative solutions for how to supply laptops with power from lasting and alternative energy sources. The challenge is to find an alternative power source that can supply a laptop sporting an Intel Core 2 Duo processor for at least an hour during normal use.
According to Intel, several European universities have accepted the challenge and it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of alternative power sources they will come up with. The project will go on for six months and the winning university will be rewarded with equipment to continue the research.
