Core 2 Extreme QX6800 is Intel’s new quad-core flagship and as the successor to QX6700 there is plenty of power under the hood. As the name implies QX6800 uses four processor core where each core is running at 2.93GHz, just like the dual-core Core 2 Extreme X6800. The processor has a total of 8MB L2 cache, just like its predecessor and the only thing separating QX6800 from QX6700 is the clock frequency, as the latter is clocked at 2.66GHz. At TechReport they’ve tested Intel’s new quad-core monster in a variety of tests and there is no doubt that this is the fastest processor on the market today. Alas, it is also one of the most expensive with a price tag close to $1,000, but it’s hardly news that you have to pay up to stay on top.
