Intel has developed its own version of the “One Laptop Per Child” a.k.a. the $100 laptop. The concept is simply to create an as cheap computer as possible to be used in developing countries where school budgets are limited. Intel’s model is much more expensive than Nicholas Negroponte’s creation though and is estimated to cost $400. Intel’s computer is expected to be used by students in developing countries, but also teachers as they’ve already signed a deal with the Mexican goverment for supplying 300 000 teachers with PCs. Intel’s budget laptop will be called Eduwise and will support both Microsoft Windows and Linux. There is no information about what is hiding beneath the fancy shell, which has some estethical similarities to Negroponte’s $100 laptop. Source: TechReport
