The rumours of Apple and Intel’s cooperation are hotter than ever and the latest information state that Apple will launch new versions of its iBooks and also new versions of Mac during Macworld Expo in San Francisco in early January. The special about these new units will be the first to use Intel’s new mobile dual core processor Yonah (Core Duo). According to Think Secret Intel will launch two versions of its dual core model of Yonah, the first model will designed for extra low power consumption and will be launched at 1.5GHz, 1.66GHz and 1.83GHz. The processor will be called “Centrino Duo”. A performance version of the same processor will be launched at higher frequencies; 1.66GHz, 1.83GHz, 2.0GHz and 2.16GHz. The latter will use a somewhat higher voltage and therefore consume more power. Other than that the two models will use the same 667MHz processor bus and a shared L2 cache at 2MB. The performance version of the processor will most likely not arrive until the end of the first quarter. “Yonah’s launch could mean that dual-core Yonah iBooks, at speeds of 1.5GHz, might be announced in January, while faster PowerBooks, packing the performance version of the processor, might arrive later in the quarter, although that remains pure speculation at this point.” Source: Think Secret
