Intel has updated its line of quad-core Xeon processors with two new models ahead of schedule. The Xeon X5365 is the new high-end model of the server/workstation Xeon series and runs at 3.0GHz with the “new” 1333MHz bus. The new model has the same thermal envelope as the predecessor X5355, 12W. Intel also launched a 2.0GHz model of the low-voltage series. Xeon L5335 has a TDP of 50W and just as the X5365 it has the 1333MHz bus. The high-end model will cost $1,172 and the low-voltage $380. While we’re glad to see these new processor ahead of schedule, the intention is of course to distract the market from the upcoming launch of AMD’s Barcelona next month. Whether they will succeed or not remains to be seen.
