During IDF in Beijing Intel presented a new type of hybrid ultrabook that with the development name “Letexo” is going to act both as a tablet and a laptop. What makes this possible is a hidden physical keyboard that slides out from under the unit, which turns it to a laptop with Windows 8.

The difference between Intel’s solution in comparison with the concept of ASUS EeePad Slider, is that Intel has started out with the components from a laptop and made it possible to use the unit as a tablet. Unlike ASUS, which began with components from a tablet and let the unit be used as a laptop.

Intel Letexo was just one of the many ultrabook concepts that was shown at the stage, where you amongst other things could spot a model with a transparent wrist rest that could be used with the computer closed.

The idea with the “Letexo” concecpt is that you with a powerful Intel Core processor, possibly a 17 watts Ivy Bridge CPU, should be able to make a device with the mobility of a tablet and the productivity of a laptop. The model Intel revealed during IDF where a little big bigger than above mentioned ASUS EeePad Slider, but with the difference in hardware this wasn’t really that unexpected.

When acting as a tablet the Letexo will be using the touch friendly interface Metro in Windows 8, while having the computers keyboard out you should be able to switch automatically to normal desktop mode with a working trackpad and keyboard.

Intel is demonstrating the Letexo as an example on how their partners could design the next generation of ultrabooks, and we are certainly looking forward to see if any manufacturers already has been hooked on the concept, which looks pretty tempting.
