Metro is the codename of a new laptop from chip giant Intel that can take the mobile market by storm. Together with the design studio Ziba Design, it has developed a new laptop that is not only a tool but thanks to its design it will also be a real attention grabber. Intel wants to make laptops fashionable and just like Apple; Intel is going for a clean design with interesting technical features. Intel Metro will, when it arrives, be the world’s thinnest laptop and it hopes to create a style of its own with this 1.8cm thin computer. At the same time it weighs little more than a kilogram, making it quite portable.

The importance of design is hard to neglect and Ziba Design even compare Metro to jewelry, a large electronic jewelry, but certainly a beautiful piece of jewelry.

“Besides making the machine thin, they’re also using materials aimed to communicate high quality and coolness. Made of champagne-colored magnesium, the laptop is decorated with subtle gold accents.”

Even if there’s no official saying that the Metro designed for women, but actually more of a unisex design, it does say that it would like to see more women with laptops.

But don’t worry, Intel hasn’t forgotten about the technology and the performance. Metro will use integrated circuits with support for practically all kinds of wireless communication, high-quality microphone for Skype conversations and even a specially designed e-paper display that is attached to the exterior of the case.

“The computer comes with a diary-like folder that attaches to the laptop via magnets. The folder, available in different colors, also functions as a wireless charger for the device. One side features a screen made of material devised by E Ink, one of the recipients of investment by Intel Capital. It can display a picture, the calendar, or your schedule for the day.”

There is solid information about when Intel’s Metro computers will arrive, or how much they will cost, but according to Business Week the manufacturing will start this year. At its website there are a number of pictures of the new computer in all of its glory and thinness.
