Intel has as the development of the new 65nm technology been able to move the launch of Conroe and the 965 chipset to an earlier date. Earlier the thought was that Conroe would arrive sometime during the second half of next year, and that 965 would be launched without any direct relation to Conroe, which would then have made it tough for the chipset to succeed as there is little separating it from the 945, which is suppose to replace, but as Intel now launches a whole new platform instead the chipset has a much bigger chance of succeeding.
Conroe on the other hand has a lot to live up to. The early tests we’ve seen with Yonah has been very promising and it seems that Intel’s choice of path with performance/watt instead is the right way to go, something AMD realized years ago though.
