Intel has had an easy transition to its 65nm manufacturing process and this is further strengthened by the fact that it has opened up a new plant for making semiconductor components at 65nm. The new plant is located in Europe or more precise in Leixlip, Ireland. This is Intel’s third 65nm plant the first of its kind in Europe, as most semiconductor plants are located in countries with cheap labor. Intel’s new plant has been named Fab 24-2 and cost 2 billion dollar to build. The new plant has already started mass producing 65nm circuits on 300mm wafers and will have a a very high capacity doing so. Intel should have the total capacity to manufacture large quantities of 65nm Core processors, something it might need with the upcoming launch of the new architecture.
