Intel launched a number of new 45nm processor, among others Core 2 Duo E8500, a week or so ago. Over at VR-Zone they’ve gotten their hands on the next “big” update from Intel. Namely the Intel 4 series chipsets. They’ve posted a screenshot with Intel’s new Wolfdale processor, E8500, on an Intel P45 motherboard. Intel P45 Express is slated for second quarter arrival and brings support for 1333MHz FSB, 8GB DDR3-1333 memory, or up to 16GB DDR2-800. VR-Zone managed to overclock the Core 2 Duo E8500 from 3.16GHz to 4.2GHz on air, which resulted in a SuperPi 1M time of 11.063 seconds.
Even if this is a pretty OK results, they sense that Intel needs to do further optimization and tweak the BIOS some more, but since the board isn’t due for another couple of months, there’s plenty of time to do so.
