Intel will launch its first 65nm processors at beginning of next year but already in about a week we will see some new processor models from the chip giant. We are talking about two new Pentium 4-models named Pentium 4 672 and 662. The only thing separating these two from the rest of the 6xx-series is that these support Intel’s new virtualization technology. We’ve reported about this earlier and back then the rumours pointed a launch of Pentium 4s with this technology pretty soon. This seems to have been correct and those wondering what virtualization technology is, we quote from the last news.

“Virtualization Technology, VT, is the name of a technology by Intel that makes it possible to run several operating systems on the same system. Several people will be able to use the same hardware independent of eachother. You simply don’t have to buy a computer for family member.”

That the Pentium 4-series only use one core for this makes us a bit sceptical towards VT. You require a lot of parallel power to run two separate system at the same time, the big breakthrough will probably not come until it reaches the dual core platforms. But at the same time it will be good test for Intel and its virtualization technology. The prices of these models will be in par with the rest of the Pentium 4 670/660-series.
