Intel Pentium 965 Extreme Edition was recently launched by Intel and it is most likely the last Extreme Edition based on the NetBurst architecture. We’ve taken a look at Intel’s previous Extreme Edition 955 processor and back then it was a dual-core processor working at 3.4GHz made with 65nm technology. 965XE is similar, but working at impressive 3.73GHz and actually an improved manufacturing process and features. First of all it is still 65nm, but an optimized such which is quite obvious when you compare the two’s power consumption. The processor not only consume less power overall, but but also sport Intel’s C1E technology (Enhanced Halt State).
The result is a processor sporting better performance than its predecessor and consume less power at the same time. Quite an achievement and Intel 965XE seems to be a considerably tougher opponent for Athlon 64 FX-60 than first anticipated, but still a processor costing $1000 and soon will be replaced by Conroe. Below you will find a couple of the reviews that has surfaced so far.
