Earlier this year, there were reports about Intel postponing its new Core i5 series platform, a sort of little brother to the current Nehalem based Core i7 family, which reigns somewhat supreme performance-wise as things stand currently. Intel though, now think that the plan to launch Core i5 would backfire for the motherboard manufacturers, who still have lots and lots of DDR2-based motherboards which would render very hard to get rid of, would the new range of 5-series chipsets be released into the wilderness that is the hardware market.
This all means that the launch of the Core i5 and the 5-series chipsets had been postponed to September, a plan that seemed all too optimistic.

There are said to be a few reasons, among others that AMD still isn’t much of an opposing force and that the Core 2 architecture is still going strong (and are still available in huge quantities). At the same time, it is said that Intel also has reviewed what features are to go into which chipset, meaning that the P55 chipset will have some P57 features embedded.
This could all end with the Core i5 platform being pushed all the way into Q4, albeit the beginning of it, which means October.
