Intel “Snowgrass” is a name worth remembering and you should recall this mysterious name together with the memory technology NAND flash. NAND flash and Solid State storage are two of the hottest topics at the moment. We have among others reported about Intel’s Robson Technology that will integrate NAND flash into laptops to speed up boot times for both programs and operating systems. Snowgrass is apparently Robson’s equivalent for desktop computers, which means that you will not have to use a laptop to gain from the advantages with this technology.
Intel “Snowgrass” is currently under development and will be launched after Robson arrives on the laptop market. To be able to make use of Snowgrass motherboard manufacturers will have to integrate a slot for NAND flash modules. However it will also be possible for manufacturers to integrate NAND flash and its control circuits directly on the motherboard, which would in that case mean we would see special boards with the Snowgrass technoogy integrated. We are looking forward to hearing more about Snowgrass, especially prices and the real gains from the technology.
