Intel will launch some really beefy solid state drives in 2010 and in Q4 we should see drives with storage capacities up to 600GB. The new models of the Intel X25-M family will use 25nm MLC NAND flash circuits. With more storage on a given surface Intel is said to be planning something big for the small 1.8″ format.

In Q1 2011 the new 1.8″ X25-M models will reach capacities of 300GB thanks to the new 25nm technology.

Even if these drives could be used in handheld units, like portable media players, mobile phones and ultramobile computers the price will probably make sure they won’t be. 300GB in a 1.8″ format is hard to say no to.
