In October we received indications of a new budget series of processors from Intel, which would revive the old Pentium name. Pentium E1000 would be based on the Conroe-L core, which is more or less a single-core version of Intel’s Core architecture. Now it seems that Intel will instead focus entirely on its dual-core architecture, even with the budget segment. According to HKEPC, Intel is planning a Pentium E2000 series, which just as the name implies uses two cores instead of one. The Conroe-L architecture will instead only be used in the really cheap budget segment; Intel’s Celeron brand. Pentium E2000 will be launched during the third quarter of 2007 and the core is a 2MB Conroe model with 1MB of the cache deactivated.
“This family is available from Q307 including E2140 (1.6GHz/1MB L2/800MHz FSB) and E2160 (1.8GHz/1MB L2/800MHz FSB). Enhanced Intel SpeedStep (EIST), Intel 64 (I64) and Execute Disable Bit (XD Bit) are supported like Core 2 Duo. Yet Intel Virtualization (VT), ViiV and vPRO are excluded for separating the market.”
