Intel’s new pace too much for motherboard manufacturers?

Intel has with its new Core architecture really picked up the pace. It launched not only a whole row of new models for the retail market but even more models for the mobile and server market. The problem with this is that we need new motherboards as well and with the high frequency of CPU launches the motherboard manufacturers are unable to keep up, especially the little ones. The fact that we’re expecting many more forces them to spend a lot more money on product development, while we at the same time will see less variation among the motherboards from each manufacturer for each processor series. The positive from our, the consumer’s, point of view is that this might lead to an excess stock of motherboards since the development will go faster than the sales and then the prices has to be lowered.
