Intel recently announced its figures for the first quarter of 2006 and the revenue for the first quarter was 8.9 billion dollars, which is 5% lower than last year. The operating income was 1.7 billion for the first quarter which you can compare to AMD’s earnings that was about 259 million. But on the other hand AMD increased its iincome with 304% (!) while Intel lost 44% since the first quarter of 2005. So even if Intel is considerably larger than AMD the cleft has closed up considerably. The end of this year is going to be very interesting for both AMD and Intel, and of course us, as Intel’s Core architecture may turn things a bit upside-down. Source: Intel
