Microsoft is currently working on the next version of its DirectX API and DirectX 10 is usually mentioned with honor as it is suppsoe to take computer gaming to a whole new level of graphics. DirectX 10 is perhaps best known for being tied to Windows Vista and will not be available for Windows XP, but few knows what is actually behind the name and what we can expect from Microsoft’s largest update of DirectX in a very long time. At ExtremeTech they’ve published an interview with two of Microsoft’s DirectX head developers to try and supply a better picture of what DirectX 10 will bring and what we can expect in the future. It’s a very technical and deep interview that brings up a lot of interesting questions.
“The biggest thing you’ll probably see is greater complexity and more detail in the game, and that can take several forms. Better foliage, better grass, more rocks, more trees. That may seem like a minor thing, but being able to generate a lot more data makes the scene a lot richer.”
