Havok recently released its new SDK Havok 4.0 as we reported about yesterday. Havok is no hardware developer but supplies the software portion of the experience and both ATI and NVIDIA have given Havok their support. At GamingNexus they’ve published an interesting interview with Jeff Yates from Havok where they chat about Havok’s increased focus on game physics and how it thinks the future of hardware accelerated physics will look like using its software. Among other things we find out that it is possible to use more than one 1 GPU dedicated to physics handling and even more interesting is that you not only should be able to use graphics cards of different models but also mix ATI and NVIDIA cards in the same system.
Since the rendering of the graphics and the physics acceleration are two completely separated things you should in theory be able to use a card from ATI for the graphics and one from NVIDIA for the physics, or vice versa. Overall an interesting article for those who wants to know more about game physics and especially from Havok’s point of veiw.
