Nintendo has never been known for its great and impressive launches. It more or less just release its products and lets the product do the work. As you all most certainly know its press conferences/demonstrations are more or less just demonstrations of what the products can do and not much more than that, very little talk about figures and such. This is considered one of Nintendo’s greatest weaknesses before the coming launch of both Wii, Playstation 3, but also Microsoft Zune which all will be released within a month and a lot of the focus has been on performance and figures. USA of Today recently published an interview with Nintendo of America’s new president Reggie Fils-Aime where among others answer questions about the upcoming launch.
We also find out several other interesting details such as that the online service will in fact be completely free of charge and since Wii will have Wi-Fi support you will just have to turn it on and everything will work, I.e. if you have a wireless network.
He also answers to the rumors about the “cooperation” rumors that have been going around, initially started by a Microsoft employee. The rumors were based on the fact that you could in fact buy a Wii and an Xbox 360 for the same price of a Playstation 3 and the answer was as expected that he preferred if the user bought a Wii and games instead.
Other than that he focus on that Nintendo is targetting people of all ages that it is trying to make every experience unique. How well Nintendo has managed to construct its video game console remains to be seen though.
