We have reported about how Microsoft’s new game console Xbox 360 has been mastered by hackers to make the DVD player in the console accept pirated games. This has been done despite that Microsoft claimed Xbox 360 would be impossible to hack. Despite video evidence and technical explanations the discussions about the hack, whether it is fake or not, have been rather hot and the fact that the group of hackers that solved the riddle will not publish the final hack have made many wonder. At Xboxic.com they’ve had a chat with Robinsod, one of the hackers, and they have tried to clear the air and find our why they have spent four months to hack an Xbox 360, how they did it so fast and why this hack is useless as a modchip.
For those too lazy to read the entire interview, the very short summary is:
* The hack is completely unfit to be applied to a modchip.
* Anyone selling a modchip based on this is a scammer.
* Trying to replicate the hack without having multiple years of experience at this kind of thing will most certainly brick your 360.
* Microsoft will quite probably be able to detect fake firmwares very soon as the cat/mouse game commences so you will get your ass kicked out of Xbox Live for the rest of your life.
* Watch out for brickware. Some moron will release one probably.
As we’ve said for a number of times now this does not mean we will see any modified Xbox 360s soon, but it’s interesting to hear what drives hackers and that piracy is certainly not a factor, rather a thign holding them back.
