We already told you about the price of the iPhone and the contract you had to sign, but what was not properly revealed until after the launch was the battery program. Swapping batteries with a regular cell phone is usually a piece of cake and buying a new battery can be as cheap as $10-15, although can cost more than twice as much as with some uncommon models. That is still far from what a battery replacement will cost you with the iPhone. The battery exchange will cost you $79 plus an additional $6.95 in shipping, because Apple decided to solder the battery to the case.

So beside the $4-599 and the $59 a month for 24 months, adding up to $1915 (for the 4GB model), you have to pitch in another $86 for a new battery (worst case scenario) and that brings us to a total of $2,001. If you decide to pick up the 8GB model you will have paid over $2,000 anyway.

That’s for a phone that is sub-par in pretty much every aspect but the interface, and actually 33% more than you have to pay for the HD DVD version of Toshiba Satellite P205.
