iTunes Music Store has from the beginning used DRM protection to ensure that spreading of their music was impossible so that only buyers at their Music Store could listen to the music. Sorry to say the DRM protection also restricts the users from doing whatever they want with their own music. As a result of that, we’ve seen a lot of programs trying to skip the DRM protection in Apple’s music files. Some years ago a program was created by Hymn, that simply removed the DRM protection from the files in question. Apple has however covered that specific security hole which Hymn used and Hymn hasn’t been heard of since.

However now it seems Hymn’s back and with the program QTFairUse6 he intends to help iTunes users strip their music files clean of DRM protection. Although it’s only supposed to work for users using iTunes 6.0.4-6.0.5 so maybe it isn’t the smoothest solution. For those interested in trying instructions can be found at Hymn-project.org
