Steve Jobs has made a statement where he says that best for the consumers would be if the music industry would drop the whole DRM hysteria. It has simply failed to stop the piracy and should instead try make it easier for the users. Jobs says that if he industry is ready to do this Apple will gladly do the same. This is basically a statement based on the fact that Apple has been put under pressure by European consumer organizations and that the music industry previously talked about dropping DRM. Analysts praise Jobs’ statement and says that iTunes as the dominant digital music store will be able to grow even more.

The Norwegian consumer organization, which earlier made iTunes illegal in Norway, was far from impressed though, but says that Jobs is trying to void the responsibility for the problems they’ve created with iTunes and FairPlay.

“It is clear that the record industry has some responsibility, but that does not relieve Apple of responsibility,”

Jobs pointed out that in such a situation Apple would present a system that would be compatible with all possible players. No one knows how this will end, not even the music industry which seems to be in a great identity crisis.
