The Cell processor is the heart of Sony’s video game console PlayStation 3 and was for long one of the most hyped processors on the market. That Cell is a pretty impressive processor is pretty clear, but many question if it isn’t a bit too hard to utilize all of the power. We have earlier heard statements about PlayStation 3 that it has been very hard to work with and now the grandfather of the FPS, John Carmack, has made things a whole lot worse for Sony by establishing exactly this. Carmack pointed out in a video interview during E3 that Cell have a very high potential, but that Sony made a mistake when designing the architecture the way it did. It’s simply a lot harder to program for than Xbox 360’s CPU.
